Custom Consoles furniture chosen for West Sussex Traffic Control CentreMarch 6, 2006
Custom Consoles has supplied two 6 metre wide desks plus the support structure and external cladding of a four-screen monitor wall for a new traffic control centre ordered by West Sussex County Council. The furniture and screen surround were built in co-operation with audio-visual display and control solutions specialist Electrosonic. Four 50 inch Clarity Margay DLP screens are combined to form a single 100 inch display which is being used to monitor vehicle movement along roads in the Chichester vicinity. Additional screens can be added easily if required in the future. "This project follows our recent co-operation with Electrosonic on a traffic monitoring facility for the UK Highways Agency," comments Custom Consoles' Sales Manager Gary Fuller. "We are very pleased to have been chosen again as a project partner. Each desk designed for the Chichester traffic control room accommodates two operators, one on either side of a six-drawer central storage cabinet. All four staff can individually adjust their desk height to match personal preference or to reduce operator-fatigue. The drawers are finished in grey Formica, contrasting with maple-veneered desk surfaces and monitor-wall surrounds. Custom-designed to fit the available space, the desks have curved-front work-surfaces and incorporate cable-management ducting. Additional storage space units are provided on the far left and right of the desks. Three Ergotron LX monitor arms are attached to each operating position, supporting 19 inch LCD computer monitor displays. A Luxo Task-light on each desk provides adjustable illumination of the desk surfaces without distracting adjacent operators from their view of the monitor wall.
