BT redcare chooses Custom Consoles M-Desk Technical Desking for Monitoring CentreSeptember 27, 2006
Custom Consoles has won a £12,000 contract from BT redcare to design, manufacture and install a 9 metre wide x 2.4 metre deep control desk for the company's Alarm Receiving Centre. Located at a secure site, the centre enables BT redcare to provide a highly efficient remote security sensing and surveillance service for corporate clients and individual households. The new desk has seating space for five operators, each equipped with a control keyboard and dual 19 inch LCD monitor screens. Four three-drawer pedestals including file storage support the 720 mm high central span. Additional extruded-aluminium supports are located near the curved left and right ends of the desk. The first and fifth operator locations are semi-circular structures set at an angle from the main section and housing open storage shelves. A 400 mm high rear panel runs the entire width of the desk and provides acoustic screening. Monitor and keyboard cables are concealed in a duct at the rear. The desk is finished in maple with a hard-wearing Marmoleum work surface in matching marbled grey. "M-Desk Technical Desking was the logical choice for this location," comments BT redcare Head of Network Operations Shaun Wheeldon. "We have already had good experience of Custom Consoles' furniture. M-Desk Technical Desking provides the same structural stability as the company's established M-Desk range plus the additional design versatility that might otherwise have entailed the expense of an entirely customised design." BT redcare combines a secure landline connection with a GSM radio backup path. The Alarm Receiving Centre is informed if line failure occurs; the GSM Radio path continues to communicate, sending out any subsequent alarm signals. The result is continuous protection of BT redcare customers' property, every second of the day, 365 days a year. Unlike other alarm monitoring services, BT redcare both alerts the Alarm Receiving Centre when it detects a line cut and provides encryption to prevent the substitution of equipment emulating line conditions. Now in its 10th year, Custom Consoles Ltd is an independent company manufacturing a broad range of studio and technical-support furniture including motorised, manually adjustable and fixed-height units plus fan-cooled sound-insulated equipment housings. Based in Bedfordshire, England, Custom Consoles Ltd is active worldwide.
